				The Uro people have lived on lake Titikaka for more than a thousand years. Like the people in Venice, they escaped offshore from enemies. They build floating islands, a job lasting for ever, as they rot from below. There are still some remote floating islands, but most of them are really floating museums. Life is hard, and it is unhealthy to stay in such a damp environment. Taquile is an island in the big lake. It "textile based". The men knit and the women spin their wool. We went to a "homestay" on a farm. They welcomed us with some kind of music. The kids challenged us to football, at 3800 meters that is quite difficult. Then they dressed us up for folkdancing. It is hard to find words…. The farm was dirt poor, but the people very nice. To be a good girl and do homework is hard in such an environment. In the morning we helped on the farm. They used some very old fashioned methods, Here we tresh beans. The result after an hours beating, among the manure.
